It was my birthday a few weeks back, but May and I never had a chance to celebrate alone. We decided to spend an evening in the city just the two of us. We started the night at Bacar for happy hour (4-6pm). It was the best! I had raw oysters on half shell at $1 a piece!! how can you beat that?! then a beer at 50% off...that just topped it off for me :) I am all about great deals and this in my opinion, was an awesome deal. May and I ate at Bacar a year back and wasn't really impressed with the food, but we always loved the ambience in the bar area, so I decided to go back for a drink before our "real" dinner of the night. We left Bacar feeling pretty good (since I had a pretty big beer) and headed towards the financial district. We made a reservation at Perbacco. I had no idea this is one of the newest restaurants in San Francisco, 3 month old to be exact. The restaurant was very pretty, but it had a very commercial feel to it. I am more of a "cozy" kinda guy. I like restaurants that are a little more intimate. This restaurant was very contemporary, but I had a very "cold" feel walking in. The person at the door greeted us immediately and walked us to the table, where it was at the corner of the restaurant. That was nice :) I decided to order something different this time around because this place is all about northern Italian food. I had no idea what Northern Italian food is, so I asked for suggestions. The waiter suggested something that I had absolutely no way to pronounce it for you, but it was raw veal. I really wanted to try it, but freaked out on the idea of raw meet :( So instead of taking the "risk", I went with a tripe appetizer (hmm... hm....). To my surprise, the tripe was soo soo good. It had a smoky taste at first, but then the flavor settled. My entree was beef short rib, I had no idea how it was served. I thought they were going to bring out a rack of ribs for me, but it was not that way. The plate came to me with a large short rib where the meat literally fell off the bone. It was yummy!
After the meal, we decided to head back to Bacar for a few more drinks and listen to some live Jazz. Heck, we were out anyway, so might as well, make it a late outing :) Bacar has live Jazz every weekend and I absolutely LOVE jazz. How can I resist? We stopped at Bacar around 8:30pm. May and I talked all night long, it was such a treat. As we indulged in our drinks and dessert, May noticed at the corner of her eyes that there was someone she recognized. She couldn't remember who this person was, but she knew he was extremely familiar. It took her about 3 mins to figure it out. It was one of her favorite celeb's fiance. She immediately looked around and guess what?! May's favorite TV show's main character was standing there. May loves Grey's Anatomy. Those of you that watches this show, you should know who I am talking about. It was Meredith!! I mean....Ellen Pompeo.
Ellen walked all the way to the back of the room where her reserved table was. Of course, May spotted her and walked up very discretely and got her autograph. She was extremely nice about it. May didn't have a piece of paper handy so she decided to have Ellen sign the back of our kids picture.
May was delighted. Since May was extremely happy about this, it really rounded out our evening :)

That evening sounds picture perfect. I hope you and your wife had a wonderful evening.
Wow, sounds like you guys had a beautiful evening together. I never knew they had live jazz at Bacar. I'll check it out one weekend. Thanks for the tip.
