It's Official! My business is moving to ...

...San Francisco!!!

After 10 years of working from a home studio, it is finally time to move my business into its own space in the beautiful city of San Francisco. I am sooooo uberly excited about this! The space is now official and it will take me a little while to get everything together, from buying a couch to stocking the fridge with water. It's going to be a big project!

During this "dusty" time, please bare with me in terms of email/phone call response time. It is going to take me a little longer to get back to you as we prepare for this big move. It's official, it's exciting, it's the next big step for Augie Chang Photographers. I cannot wait to see you at my new space! You are all welcome to come, drop by and say hello!

Alex & Buffy's Couple Shoot

I've known Alex and Buffy for many years now. They are parents of three beautiful children that I photograph every year for the last few. This year, Buffy wanted to do a session with Alex as a couple and I immediately thought that was an excellent idea. Buffy said to me (not the exact words, but something like this), "...we want some pictures together so when we grow old, we can look back at them." Well, here they are! They look A-M-A-Z-ING!

Great times with the sisters

Connie, Alice and Tammy are sisters but they don't get to see each other often due to the fact that they all live in different cities, well, even country! Enjoy them ladies!

Check it out!! Alice, you rocked this one. This could land on an album cover!

Thrilled to be nominated for Blu's Photographer of the Year!!

UPDATE: the voting process is not going to start until July. I will let you know when this happens. I appreciate all of your support!

A few days ago, I received an email from Bludomain and asked if I can send them a fun profile picture of myself. I didn't think much of it at that time, so I sent over my latest photo from Nestldown that my assistant shot. Then last night, my friend Christine, wrote me and said "Congrats on your nomination!" ... and I was totally confused.

I finally found out what this is all about. This is a complete surprise. I am honored to be nominated as the Blu's 2009-2010 Photographer of the Year. I can't believe, and proud, to be standing next to my good friend Jen on this nomination.

Wyatt

I am still trying to catch up with my blog. You are probably still seeing a lot of children pictures because the last few months have been about children. A big part of my business is children and family photography, the other part is obviously wedding. This is how my season goes, Feb-Nov is generally wedding season. Children and family season starts around Sept and goes until Dec. I take January off :)

This session for Wyatt fell within my children and family session season. This is the first time I shot for little Wyatt. He actually reminds me of my little Nate. I don't know if it was his smile or just the way he acted. I felt close to him. The session started out a bit rough since we had to wake Wyatt up from his car nap. It took him a little bit to get used to the environment. Patience is what I always tell my clients. At the end, it was a wonderful session.

Year-After-Year

My good friend Shane had a great blog post idea. He told me to post pictures of some of my children that I go back and shoot year after year. This way, people can see how their children have changed and grown through the years.

Aidan & Sofia

I really cannot remember, but Aidan was one of my earlier children portrait clients. I've known Aidan for most of his life now. Each year at around holiday time, I visit the family and take pictures of him. Shortly after I shot for Aidan, his parents gave birth to his little sister Sofia. Now when I see them, I shoot for both lovely children.

Personal Work (Part 3) - Perri

This is the last part of my personal project for Perri. I love love love this set of photos. She looks so natural at this farm near my home. The goal of this shoot was for me to work on my lighting techniques. As many photographers would use reflectors or lights to achieve even lighting, I opt-ed to not use any artificial lights to light her face and body. This requires a good understanding of light and how it gets translated into the "right" images through my lens. This was very challenging but yet very fun and satisfying. I miss the opportunity to work on these personal projects.

Here, I was working with extremely harsh lighting. It was probably around 12:30pm when the sun was literally above both of us.

Here, I worked on the backlit situation. Getting the perfect exposure on her face was difficult, but you see how beautiful the result is when that happens.

Even open shade...ah!! total photographer's dream lighting situation.

Instead of fighting with the sun, I tried to incorporate it into this picture to create drama. Sometimes, in my opinion, a flare can be overdone, so becareful when you are working with flare.
