Mr Tourist

Today is one of those days that I did all the touristy things around the island of Oahu. It was cliche, but it was fun at the same time. I've been to Oahu many times, but I still enjoy the touristy stuff every time I am here.

I am going to take you through my day (with pictures of course).

I started the day going to Leonard's for a 1/2 dozen of malasadas (for those of you who don't know what they are - well, I didn't - they are sorta like donuts). Oh my god! these little fellas are sooooo sooooo good. They are warm, fluffy and sweet. They are just the right texture. I had 4 in one sitting. No joke!! Thanks Gene for telling me about Leonard's!!

I took a picture outside of Leonard's because they have not changed a bit. They had a picture inside the establishment and it looked EXACTLY like this (minus the neon signs).

Next I stopped by the mothership of pineapples - Dole Plantation. I didn't think I was going to come here, but the crowd drew me in. There were many people outside the plantation, so I was nosy, turned in there and parked. It was fun to see the different types of pineapples. I had no idea there were red pineapples!!

Now we finally made it to the north shore. We had to stop by Matsumoto for some shave ice. To be honest with you, I have no idea why this place is so popular. Just ice and flavored sugar syrups. I had to get one just because. Maybe that is why it is so popular...just because.

I had to wonder what you call this guy who scoops up the ice and pats them into a ball. Ice ball scooping engineer? I am sure he is one of the Matsumotos.

Love the colors of the flavored sugary syrups.

The first time I was here, it was probably 10 years ago. This sign has not changed since (maybe the price has changed). Business like this is awesome, you just don't have to change anything. People will continue to flock in.

Yum! Here is where I had lunch. Got some shrimp scampi with rice (like everything else, they always serve you rice with anything). It was AWESOME. Now I know why there's a long line.

This pretty much ended my day by taking a dip here at Waimea Bay. One of my close friends Kathy once said (she is a local)... "there is something about this place, it is just so magical"... I thought of her today when I was here.

Thought this was funny...

WoW! I have family that lives near Waimea and it's definitely my most favorite beach to go to when I'm in Hawaii. Thanks for bringing back memories. Question: What lens do you primarily shoot with when you're out on vacation?

We must've gone on the same drive! We went to the Dole Plantation and to get shaved ice and Giovanni's shrimp when we were in Hawaii this past October! Yes, touristy--but fun! Hope you're having a good time!

Ryan - I usually travel with my 5D and my consumer lens 28-135mm IS. This is a great lens in my opinion for "do it all".
