Different taste at 30,000 feet?

In restaurants or at bars, you don't really hear people order ginger ale or tomato juice with their meal, but what is it about the airplane that people all of a sudden have the taste for ginger ale and tomato juice?

Thoughts?

Cuz is free. Heck, at 30,000 feet, I better get all the free drinks I can while stuck in this plane.

Ginger ale helps with queezy stomachs (caused by airplane flights) and tomato juice I believe is for mixing the bloody mary's. One of the cocktail drinks available from an abbreviated list of drinks (which may indicate the rarity of why you hear the drink ordered less often on the ground). :)

Hmmm... if they can whip up a Long Island Iced Tea at 30,000 ft., I'd love to have one! They have an open bar on British Airways! What's up with all these U.S. airlines? They are cheap, and not well-managed! Maybe BA should buy American, and Lufthansa should take United... I bet you they will probably start serving hot meals again! =)

I have often wondered that as well. I don't drink either that often but always get tomato juice when I am on a plane. For me I would say it is because my wife is usually not there (I fly for business) to gag as I drink tomato juice.
